                                     Neck Pain

Neck pain is pain in or around the spine beneath your head, known as the cervical spine. Neck pain is a common symptom of many different injuries and medical conditions.

You might have axial neck pain (felt mostly in the neck) or radicular neck pain (pain shoots into other areas such as the shoulders or arms). It can be acute (lasting from days to up to 6 weeks) or chronic (lasts longer than 3 months to years).

Neck pain can interfere with daily activities and reduce your quality of life if left untreated.

Neck pain is very common. It occurs in about one out of three people at least once a year. It is more common in women than in men, and your chance of developing it increases with age.

Patients describe the pain as a persistent ache, a stabbing or burning pain, increased sensitivity to mild pressure applied to neck, neck pain plus headache and numbness or tingling in one or both arms and increased tension/tightening in the muscles in the neck.

The causes of neck pain include aging, injury, mental stress, physical strain, conditions such as poor posture or being overweight that affect spinal balance, growths and other health conditions such as meningitis, rheumatoid arthritis and cancer.

How acupuncture can treat Neck Pain

Acupuncture has been used to treat various pain problems.  Neck pain is an indication acupuncture treats often.  Some studies have found that acupuncture can stimulate biochemical changes both locally (where the needles are placed) and in the central nervous system. In theory, these biochemical changes may help foster pain relief and other beneficial effects in some cases.

Clinically, chronic neck pain and stiffness are common reasons for acupuncture treatments to be sought besides of pain medicines and physical therapy.

We have long-year experience treating neck pain by employing local acu-points and combined remote acu-points taught by original doctrine (from ancient literature).  TuiNa manipulation would be combined for some cases that presents arm's or finger's symptoms.  Herbal fomulars would be advised for some specific cases.
